Skateboarding’s Effect on Style

 The sport I have chosen is skateboarding, this is because I believe it has had a major impact on fashion and popular culture, especially for me. Skateboarding as a culture is community, and the brands worn such as Supreme, Palace, Nike SB, Altimers, FA etc.… are signifiers. There have been many times when I’ve seen someone wearing a shirt/shoes/hat etc. from a brand I like and I’ve started a conversation with them and become friends because we are in too the same things, such as fashion, music and films. Skateboarding from its roots has a D.I.Y ethos, it’s a sport that you and your friends practice together. Its community feel extends into the clothing where you make friends with someone who works in a skate shop and can hook you up with a discount or some free clothes. And even more so you need comfortable clothing that’s baggy enough to move around in and no rip if when you kick out to do a trick.
