ART DIRECTION: OFF WHITE ASAP YAMS INVITE

For my art direction module of my Fashion Styling and Communication BA, I was tasked with the project to create a fashion show invite for a brand of my choosing. I choose OFF WHITE for my invite, this is because I love Virgil Abloh's work.

I created a mood board looking at Virgil's invites from various shows. I also looked at Virgil's mood board he created for Vogue, "The moodboards of the 2015 LVMH Award nominees".

Building upon this further I looked at further work Virgil had done referencing ASAP YAMS. Such as the OFF WHITE t-shirt, created for YAMS DAY. 

It became clear to me Virgil pays a lot of respect to Yams' legacy and what he did for the culture. And as a fan of both Virgil and Yams, I felt that it was fitting to combine these two greats in one project. 

I created a see through envelope out of acetate, to resemble the what Virgil has done for many of his invites, such as his latest collection "NATURAL WOMAN". 

I then chose the title for the show, "BIG DADDY NEWPORT", this was based of one of Yams' tweet. I felt it was fitting because it accentuates who he was as a person. 

For the date of the show I choose what 18th of January, this is because ASAP MOB have made that day YAMS DAY, its the day that Yams died, and for the last two years ASAP MOB have thrown a concert to celebrate the life of one of there founding members.   

For the location I choose Virgil's new store EM PTY GALLERY in New York, this was because I felt it was fitting to have it New York as that is where Yams lived.
